Frequently Asked Questions

The project will provide more space for our students, staff and faculty. When complete, it will add 43,000 square feet of learning space without changing the footprint of our campus. This will allow us to add more programs, technology, innovation and playground space. 

Once the project begins, we anticipate it will take approximately three semesters to complete.

The goal is to fund the entire project through Galloway Forward: A Campaign to Ignite, Inspire, and Imagine. Galloway currently carries no debt and owns all of its land. We have every intention to remain debt-free. 

Galloway has partnered with Cooper Carry as our architecture firm and Winter Construction. We are also working with our Chastain Park Partners and neighbors in the surrounding community to ensure this project, once complete, will enhance the park and surrounding neighborhoods.

During construction, we will make every effort to minimize disruption.  We fully expect that students will receive the same level of education Galloway has always offered. When the project is complete, our vision is that the student experience will be better than ever before. 

We will continue to cap enrollment at 800, maintaining our 8:1 student-teacher ratio. We have no plans to increase enrollment, and this cap keeps our school compliant with the City of Atlanta.

There are three major areas:

• Community: The Galloway School is built on community. We are more than the buildings on campus. We are a tightly woven group, and this project will bring us closer together with more green space, a central dining experience, and a more modern learning environment.

• Safety: Once complete, our campus safety will be greatly improved. The entire footprint will be gated with one central entry point. Students will have more freedom to move about campus, knowing it is secure, thus creating deeper community connections. 

• Facility and Programs: The addition of classrooms and designated flex space will allow for additional course offerings. A new dedicated library and multimedia space will be created. Classrooms will have more sunlight, additional windows, and a completely new playground will be added.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is a priority. The entire footprint of the construction site will be fenced during the project. We will have at least two resource officers on campus throughout construction. 

At the completion of this project, Galloway will be a closed campus with only one entry point. This vastly improves the security of our campus. We look forward to having a single point of entry that will ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and buildings.

We wish the beloved building could be saved. However, renovating the building to bring it up to code and maintain Galloway’s standards of a high-quality learning environment would be incredibly costly and require significant portions of the building to be replaced. If we are going to Ignite and Inspire our students and faculty, we need to Imagine the future of the building today: 

• New technology to prepare students for the changing workforce

• Spaces that allow collaboration and connection 

• A building that meets the safety and accessibility standards that our students and teachers deserve  

Everyone who knows and loves the Gresham building will recognize pieces preserved in the new building and courtyard, such as the transom windows, fireplaces, and even bricks that may be used in the new courtyard. Our history is part of our future.

This campaign, launching in late Spring 2024,  allows us to maintain our expectations of excellence and to transform Galloway while never compromising our core mission.  Galloway Forward will address the school’s most pressing needs: thoughtful campus and facilities planning, updates, renovations, and additions leading to enhanced investment in student programming, faculty and staff growth and support, and long-term sustainability.

Galloway Forward will not result in any increase in tuition. Annual tuition increases provide for faculty and staff salaries; capital expenses are not paid for by tuition dollars. 

There will be several naming opportunities at various giving levels for the new building that will be communicated soon.
