An update on the Search Committee
Posted 08/15/2017 10:00AM

Dear Galloway Community,

We are writing today to update you on our Head of School search process.

We would first like to share the exciting news that our Search Committee has been finalized and is ready to move forward with the important task ahead. The Search Committee is a sub- committee of the Board of Trustees, made up of trustees, former trustees, and faculty and staff representatives nominated internally by their colleagues. The committee members represent a balanced cross-section of the school community. We anticipate a process grounded in extensive community input, meaningful dialogue, healthy debate, and strong critical analysis of candidates. We're confident this team is up to the task ahead!

We are pleased to introduce the members of our Head of School Search Committee:

  • Amy Smith '89 Search Committee Co-Chair, former Board Chair, Alumnus, and Current Parent
  • Leigh Thompson Search Committee Co-Chair, Chair- elect and Alumni Parent
  • Stephen Fleming-Cooper Upper Learning Mathematics Instructor
  • Jim Kieffer Trustee and Current Parent
  • Lynn Mandelbaum Early Learning Counselor
  • Neal Sumter Trustee and Current Parent
  • Debra Sydnor Board Chair and Current Parent

We would also like to highlight that the most significant contribution you can make to the search process in these early days is participating in the upcoming survey. The survey is aimed at soliciting your opinions as they relate to the search for Galloway's next Head of School. This survey will ask for your views on Galloway's current strengths and challenges, as well as the skills and personal qualities you would hope and expect to see in a successful candidate.

The survey link will be sent to the primary constituents of the school via email on Friday, August 18. The survey will remain open through Friday, August 25. If you do not receive a link and wish to participate, please contact us at

Individual responses will be anonymous, and responses will be aggregated by the consultants at Educators' Collaborative. The aggregated responses will directly inform the development of the leadership profile. We are hopeful for a high level of community participation, as the leadership profile is one of the most powerful tools in the recruitment process.

We look forward to working with you through this important process! If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at

Best regards,

Amy and Leigh
