Playwright visit kicks off arts collaboration

This year's winter production at Galloway will be something special — a collaborative original work by Upper Learning students in all the arts disciplines: theatre, dance, music and visual arts. Together with artists-in-residence brought to Galloway through a partnership with the Alliance Theatre, the new student work will be focused on the concept of "Home." Three artists will visit in various capacities to help develop the project: Mark Valdez of Cornerstone Theater in L.A., author and playwright Pearl Cleage, and director Greg Changnon of the Alliance.
Mr. Valdez, our first visiting artist, joined the UL playwriting class recently and worked with theatre teacher Megan Cramer's students on how to source material when writing plays. The dance, music and visual arts students will add their own components to the collaboration, which will be performed December 7-10.
