Dear Galloway Community,
As you know, after this school year, Suzanna Jemsby will assume the headship at Washington International School in Washington, D.C. Please join us in thanking Suzanna for her service and invaluable contributions to The Galloway School. Under Suzanna's leadership, Galloway has become a much stronger school than when she arrived in 2012. Because of these strengths, we believe that Galloway's next Head of School position will be highly coveted. So, it is with great enthusiasm that we are writing today with an update on our Head of School search.
The Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the hiring of Educators' Collaborative LLC (EC) as our search firm. EC is one of the oldest and most highly regarded firms in the search business. Since their founding in 1971, they have conducted more than 400 Head of School searches. They are recognized experts in the field of education and are especially adept at working with schools that are philosophically aligned with Galloway. We are particularly impressed with the strengths of the two consultants who will lead our search, Doug Jennings and Mary Seppala. Both served as Heads of School before joining EC and have deep experience in a number of educational settings. Interestingly, Doug knew Mr. Galloway well, both professionally and personally. Mary brings a breadth of experience, having served in both national and international schools.
Our goal is for the Head of School search process to reflect the thoughts and aspirations of the entire Galloway community. To that end, Mary visited the campus on August 7 and 8. Her visit strategically coincided with faculty/staff pre-planning to allow her an opportunity to introduce herself and the search process to administrators, faculty and staff before the energy and excitement of the students' arrival back to school. Doug will visit on August 22 and 23 and will meet with key constituents of our community, including faculty, staff, trustees, current and past parents, students and alumni. In addition to campus visits, EC will solicit input using an online survey. So, there will be sufficient opportunity for everyone in our community to provide input throughout the search process.
The Board is also in the process of convening a search committee. This committee will steward our search for Galloway's next Head of School and will ultimately recommend a Head of School candidate to the Board of Trustees, who will make the final hiring decision.
Familiar members of the Galloway community, Leigh Thompson and Amy Stevens Smith '89, will co-chair the search committee. Leigh is a current Trustee and Chair-Elect of the Board. In addition, she is a parent to two Galloway alums, classes of 2013 and 2015, and has previously served as President of the Parents Association. Amy is both a former Trustee and Board Chair, currently serves on the Alumni Executive Board and is a parent to two current students, classes of 2019 and 2023. Leigh and Amy are looking forward to leading a search committee that will include representatives of key constituents within our community – faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, parents of current students, and parents of alumni. The search committee will ensure that students have ample opportunity to voice their thoughts and input, as well.
Given the extraordinary gains Galloway has experienced under Suzanna's leadership, and our reputation in the independent school community, we are confident that we will attract an exceptional pool of candidates. It is our goal to be as communicative and transparent as possible. In the coming weeks, the school's website will be updated to include a page that we will use to keep you apprised of our progress. We are very excited to work with you in this important process, and we enlist the support of everyone in our community to help us attract a strong Head of School to lead Galloway into the future. As the search progresses, please feel free to send your comments and questions to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation.
