French students visit Galloway, building global relationships
Posted 04/20/2017 02:00PM
Last week, 14 students and two teachers from Arcachon, France, visited Galloway. Their visit is part of an exchange that started a few years ago with correspondence between the two schools. Galloway's French classes wrote emails and sent videos back and forth with their French friends to practice language skills and learn about each other's culture. Last summer, French teacher Scottie Belfi led the first delegation to visit Arcachon and this spring we were able to welcome the French students.
Galloway families generously opened their homes to host our visitors and to show them around our city. In addition to visiting campus, they experienced a low-country boil, attended spring musical Footloose, visited landmarks, and even got to go on the court with the Hawks.
Mme. Belfi says, "Seeing Galloway through the eyes of my teacher friends from Arcachon reinvigorated my love for this place and the power in our teaching and learning style. A teacher from Saint-Elme took pictures of all the quotations from Mr. Galloway around campus; he was really impressed with our faculty and our students that we are so open, so close and so creative."
French student Janani Suresh '19 says, "This experience was incredible and almost magical! It was amazing to be able to communicate with somebody whose language you're learning, and who's learning your language. I think this helped me a lot with my French."
We look forward to continuing the conversations and relationships with our Saint-Elme friends in the future!
