I love Galloway because it’s a place where I can learn, have fun, and spend time with my friends. The teachers really care about us and make classes interesting, which makes me want to do my best. I also like how there are a lot of activities and chances to try new things, both in class and outside of it. The school doesn’t just focus on learning from books. Our teachers show us how to work together, be creative, and think in new ways. There are so many different opportunities, whether it’s joining a club, playing sports, or exploring the arts. No matter what you’re interested in, there’s always a way to be involved and grow. That makes school exciting because every day brings something different to look forward to.
Another reason I love Galloway is because of the friendships I’ve made. People are welcoming, and it’s easy to find friends who like the same things I do. I know I can always count on my friends and teachers if I need help, and that makes school feel like a second home. Being in a place where I can be myself makes me feel happy and supported. Galloway isn’t just where I go to school. It’s where I’m making memories and learning things I’ll carry with me forever.

Galloway is an indelible part of my life. I was there the very first day the school opened in the 2-year-old class with Mrs. Ball. On the day I graduated, Elliott Galloway remarked that I was the last of the original class who was still around. While it is hard to pinpoint one thing that made me into the person I am today, there is no question that what I learned at Galloway, both from an educational standpoint and a moral one, impact me to this day.
I got my love of reading from Mrs. Kilpatrick and the contracts that gave us points for every book we read. My passion for writing certainly was nurtured in Mrs. Davis' class when we were told to write about the adventures we had just shared in "circle" at the beginning of the school day. And the sense of visual storytelling that is at the core of my career unquestionably got its start with Mr. Kiser's photography classes and working with him on the yearbook.
But Galloway is more than learning to stoke creative fires in young people. I see it in my two sons, Drew and Alec, who each also traveled the K-12 path at Galloway and are today embarking on their professional careers in the business world. Their confidence in their abilities, their passion for speaking up, and their sense of morality and compassion -- I know that Galloway sticks with them the same way it sticks with me.

I love Galloway for many reasons, but one of the biggest is the friendships I have made. When I first came to Galloway I was shy and nervous, but everyone was welcoming, and within a week I had a whole group of friends. Because Galloway is a smaller community, I have been able to connect with people in my grade and in other grades too. It is also easy to maintain friendships here because the school makes sure students have classes with their friends and that no one feels left out or alone.
My favorite subjects at Galloway are English and Science. I enjoy English because I love reading and writing, and we get to learn it in different ways. In eighth grade, for example, we studied comic books as a form of storytelling, which showed me that writing can take many shapes. I also like the variety of assignments, from essays to poems, which keeps it interesting. Science is fun because it is very hands on, with lots of labs and experiments that help me learn in a visual way. I enjoy all of my classes, but English and Science are the ones that stand out the most.
Another reason I love Galloway is the relationships with teachers and the opportunities to try new things. The teachers here support me not only in the classroom but also outside of it, and they always listen and encourage me to succeed. I have also been able to explore many activities, like playing volleyball and tennis, being in the musical, and even trying dance. The no cut policy makes it possible for everyone to participate and improve, no matter their skill level. I feel like Galloway is a place where people are supportive, welcoming, and encouraging, and it has always felt like a community where I belong.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community. Galloway is a place where creativity thrives, and the arts are truly celebrated. The students here bring an inspiring energy to everything they do. They’re engaged, curious, and always willing to try new things, which makes teaching them such a rewarding experience.
In addition to teaching, I have the privilege of directing the fall play and the spring musical. These productions are a wonderful opportunity for students to dive deep into storytelling and performance, whether they’re onstage or working behind the scenes. Seeing their dedication, talent, and growth through the rehearsal process is one of the highlights of my year.
My classes reflect a broad range of artistic and communicative skills. In my Acting Through Improv course, students develop their creativity, spontaneity, and teamwork while exploring advanced improvisational techniques. Public Speaking is all about helping students build confidence and learn how to communicate effectively, whether they’re delivering a formal speech or simply sharing their ideas. In my Film Studies class, we explore the magic of storytelling through the lens of cinema, analyzing classics and modern works to understand how films shape and reflect our world.
Every day, I’m inspired by my students’ willingness to explore and take creative risks. It’s exciting to be in a place where art has such a prominent role in the curriculum, and I look forward to seeing how the year unfolds!

I have been a student at The Galloway School since PreK. I love being surrounded by a loving and supportive community that feels like a family. I am grateful to have found such an accepting environment so early in my life. Every day at Galloway, I am excited to learn something new, see my friends, and have meaningful interactions with my teachers.
In each of my classes, I am challenged to think about things differently, and this learning style helps further my understanding of every topic. This year, my favorite class has been Historical Thinking Skills because it was a learning experience different from what I’ve had before. In each class, we would think deeply and discuss something new and interesting to me like the emergence of the universe or a chapter of the Quran. After completing the class, I feel more confident in my ability to analyze and understand content that initially seemed daunting.
Along with being an academic student, I also play soccer and softball and assist backstage in our plays and musicals. I have greatly appreciated these experiences because I feel more connected to students in other grades. I also appreciate these activities for the various skills they have taught me, including discipline, communication, resilience, and responsibility. This combined with my academics has allowed me to grow as a person, student, and player.

I have been teaching Upper Learning Technology and Design at The Galloway School for almost nine years, specializing in Design Technology. My courses, including Engineering and Design, Architectural Design, Digital Animation, Biomimicry, and Web Design, are all hands-on and project-based, allowing students to develop practical skills through real-world problem-solving. One of my favorite projects is the Automaton Project in Engineering and Design I, where students apply simple mechanical principles to create a kinetic toy using laser cutting and 3D printing. Through this process, they develop both 2D and 3D design skills while learning about material properties and manufacturing techniques.
What makes Galloway students unique is their purpose-driven approach to learning. They take ownership of their education, using their high school years to explore who they are and what they want to pursue in life. This mindset fosters a deep sense of curiosity, independence, and innovation in my classroom. Whether they are designing biomimetic solutions inspired by nature or developing interactive web experiences, my students embrace challenges and push their creative boundaries, making every project a meaningful learning experience.
I love teaching at Galloway because of the community and the trust our administration places in me to shape my curriculum in ways that align with my student's interests and passions. This level of freedom allows me to constantly evolve my courses, ensuring they remain relevant, engaging, and impactful. Just as my students are on a journey to discover their purpose, I find that teaching at Galloway continues to shape my own sense of purpose. Guiding students through the creative and technical process of design is more than just a job—it’s an ongoing adventure in innovation, exploration, and personal growth.
