Afterschool Enrichment classes are offered so Galloway students can go beyond their school day with a fun variety of arts, sports and more.

MON.

Mondays

PreK Hip Hop / Tap Combo

This high energy class explores rhythm and musicality with current kid-friendly music. The students learn hip hop & tap through fun games, activities, and dance routines. It enhances balance, spatial awareness, flexibility, and cardio endurance. This class promotes body awareness, coordination, and self-confidence Led by Erik Brown of Endigo Studios.  *Tap shoes or hard bottomed shoes required

Jazz Dance
K-4th, 3 p.m. -- $275, min 6, max 16

One of the most popular and well-known forms of dance. Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique, and progressions including turns, kicks, and leaps. In a Jazz class, the dancers also learn many fun and popular dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. Led by Erik Brown of Endigo Studios.

Electrified and Robofied
K-3rd, 3-4 p.m. -- $280, min 6, max 12

This class will electrify their imagination as we create our own magnets, circuits, electromagnets, create eddy currents and more. Wait until you hear about our buzzing and lighting human circuit machine! The children will glow with excitement as we study fluorescence and bio-luminescence. Watch fluorescent eggs grow 100 times their normal size!  In addition, we'll introducing Boost Robots, our newest robotics kit specially designed for younger students to help introduce them to the world of coding and robotics.

Bricks 4 Kidz

WE LEARN, WE BUILD, WE PLAY… Bricks 4 Kidz® is a STEAM-based, enriching, hands-on experience. Each week students build a new model using Lego® Bricks and Bricks 4 Kidz proprietary kits and designs. Our models are age appropriate and provide a high level of interest. Also, kids can build their own creations in our creative play box. Creativity is encouraged and celebrated! Our “builders” have a lot of fun.

Woodworking with Mrs. G

3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students are invited to explore the beauty and versatility of wood with Mrs. G. Several hands-on projects with wood will be the main emphasis of the class as we create objects that are both beautiful and useful from wood. Please note: Power tools including hand drills and jigsaws will be used under close adult supervision in this class.

Bricks 4 Kidz

Beginning Fencing

Through this program, students will learn about this Olympic sport that requires quickness, strength and tactics. Your child will learn basic fencing footwork, participate in skill building fencing drills, bout with classmates, and improve their overall fitness level. All necessary fencing equipment is provided, including all required safety gear.

Exploring Drama (PreK)

Young students will explore and develop creative self-expression with exercises involving imagination, concentration, observation, voice, and movement. The students will also learn about drama through playing characters in short children’s stories and will be led by Allison Gardner. This class begins on September 5th.

Imagination & Movement (PreK)

This class encourages free expression while teaching basic elements of movement and tumbling. This class also features fun games that teach sharing, patience, and good sportsmanship. Your child’s imagination will flourish all while getting a great physical work out.

Chess

A fantastic group of teachers helps to make chess fun and interactive for each student, regardless of his or her level of experience. Playing chess has proven to help students enhance creativity, improve concentration, develop and expand critical thinking skills, and boost academic performance.

Musical Theater Dance (K-4th)
K-4th grade, 3-4 p.m. -- $275, min 6, max 20

This class is very fun and popular for the dancer who loves to be on stage!  We use musical theatre themed songs along with concepts just  as you would see on Broadway! It is a fantastic way to feel like you are in the theater.  Jazz technique, stylization, expression is also taught in this class which enhances their dance education and future theater opportunities. Led by Erik Brown of Endigo Studios.

Exploring Drama
1st & 2nd Grade, 3-4p.m. -- $199, min 5, max 12

The development of self-confidence, ability to communicate, and teamwork are explored in this process-oriented class. Students participate in movement and sense awareness exercises, vocal activities, theater games, and scenes. This class also may include some singing and will be led by Allison Gardner. This class will begin on September 5th

Pottery Plus

Explore hand building, sculpture, slab, coiling, pinching, and scoring. Each artist will complete several glazed masterpieces, while enjoying creative experimentation and personal expression through guided projects, while enhancing sensory development and motor skills. In addition, this fall we'll also be working with other sculpture material as well to create even more fun masterpieces!

Yoga

Yoga not only improves focus, flexibility, balance, strength, stamina, and coordination, but also enhances self awareness, self discipline, and self-esteem.  The ultimate goal in yoga is to receive a deeper connection to yourself and with others. In yoga class we learn and practice yoga postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness.  The students learn specific tools for calming down or increasing energy, and to have the wisdom to know when each is appropriate. Each yoga lesson begins with a mindful intention that empowers students and fosters positive thinking.  We will then practice challenging yoga postures that strengthen and balance the body and mind. Throughout the lesson, students learn and practice breathing techniques to relax and manage their stress.  We will listen to music, play yoga games and sometimes create mindful art to encourage self expression and creativity. Most of all we will have FUN!!!

Minecraft Exploration Club

New challenges this Winter for returning students and newcomers! Minecraft is more than chasing Creepers around. Join Galloway's EL Librarian Steve Bartle to create, explore, and put your problem-solving skills to the test. The class is designed to help students learn and improve their building skills using the creative side of Minecraft. Students will collaborate together while solving project-based activities. We will focus on developing the camper's understanding of Redstone, game design, adventure maps and much more. Please note, new and returning students are welcome to join this session. We will be using a new version of Minecraft, which will lead to new and exciting activities.

Middle Learning Programs

 

Kids TV (Mondays) (March 11 - May 20)

During this 9 week film making class, students work with professional filmmakers to learn the basics of film making. After undergoing special training on camera, lighting, and producing, the class will work as a production team to produce an original short film, TV show, or music video! Along with gaining technical and film crew experience, class members will strengthen their team work and artistic skills in order to produce films and projects. The final video will debut at a special screening for friends and family on the last day of class.

Mixed Media Art Exploration(Tuesdays) (March 12 - May 21)

A lively and engaging approach to art! In each class, students create elements to use towards their two final finished 3-D art projects: a 3-D Art Canvas Painting and a 3-D My Favorite Things Personal Journal. In each class students incorporate multi-mediums including painting with acrylics, sculpting with polymer clay, pastel drawings, water color paintings and collaging. 

Chess (Wednesdays) (March 13 - May 22)

Advanced Pottery & Painting class (Thursdays) (March 14 - May 23)
5th-8th grade, 3-4:15 p.m. -- $250, min 6, max 12

We will spend part of the term doing advanced pottery projects and part of the term painting on canvas with acrylic. The children will finish several masterpieces including an impressionistic painting, as well as an abstract. Your child does not need to be able to draw well to find success in this class. The focus is to introduce each child to the joy of painting and mixing colors. Be prepared to be amazed by your children’s art!

 

Middle Learning Directed Study (MLDS) (Monday-Thursdays)
5th-8th, 3-4pm, min 4, max 6

Galloway Middle Learning Directed Study (MLDS) provides group tutoring and time management assistance for Galloway middle learning students. These sessions are designed to help students with current schoolwork and upcoming assignments. Students can expect to meet weekly with Lordserious Watson to address scholastic progress through expert tutelage and customized action plans. These action plans include study schedules, prioritizing assignments, tutoring, and more. Mr. Watson will also teach and emphasize proven study habits and problem-solving skills. He is a professional educator, Alumnus of Galloway and Georgia Tech, and has been working with Galloway students for 10 years. Slots are limited to a minimum of 4 students each and a maximum of 6 to insure that each child receives plenty of personal attention.

Afterschool Music Lessons at Galloway

The second session of music lessons begins in January of 2019. If you would like to check availability with specific teachers, or a specific teacher, please email Jim Hilleary @ jhilleary@gallowayschool.org

Register for the instructor and amount of time you would like. Once you register, the instructor will be in touch with you via email to confirm a time for your student in their schedule. Lessons will begin the week of January 7. If an agreeable time can not be found, 100% of the registration fee will be refunded to your credit card.

Lessons are available for the following instruments: Voice, Piano, Drums, Bass Guitar, Guitar, Saxophone, Trombone, & Trumpet. Registration for Music Lessons is open.
