Afterschool Enrichment classes are offered so Galloway students can go beyond their school day with a fun variety of arts, sports and more.

MON.

Mondays

PreK Hip Hop

This high energy class explores rhythm and musicality with current kid-friendly music. The students learn hip hop dance through fun games, activities, and dance routines. Robo Rangers: Coding, Stop Motion, Robotics & Machines

This wide ranging class will include new exciting projects each week where the students will be working with Ozobots, Stop Motion Video, Boost Robots, and simple machines like roller conveyors and other geared contraptions. Students will also be using Lego WeDo construction sets. Students will get a great taste for coding, video production, physics, and mechanical engineering in this popular new class!

Kids TV (Mondays) (March 11 - May 20)

During this 9 week film making class, students work with professional filmmakers to learn the basics of film making. After undergoing special training on camera, lighting, and producing, the class will work as a production team to produce an original short film, TV show, or music video! Along with gaining technical and film crew experience, class members will strengthen their team work and artistic skills in order to produce films and projects. The final video will debut at a special screening for friends and family on the last day of class.

Beginning Fencing

Through this program, students will learn about this Olympic sport that requires quickness, strength and tactics. Your child will learn basic fencing footwork, participate in skill building fencing drills, bout with classmates, and improve their overall fitness level. All necessary fencing equipment is provided, including all required safety gear.

Mixed Media Art Exploration
5th-8th, 3-4 p.m. -- $250 – min 6, max 14

A lively and engaging approach to art! In each class, students create elements to use towards 3-D art projects: a 3-D Art Canvas Paintings and a 3-D hand made paper "My Favorite Things Personal Journal. In each class students incorporate multi-mediums including painting with acrylics, sculpting miniature food and candy with polymer clay, pastel drawings, photo of favorite pet, water color paintings and collages.Your student will bring home several creative art pieces.

Exploring Drama (PreK)

Young students will explore and develop creative self-expression with exercises involving imagination, concentration, observation, voice, and movement. The students will also learn about drama through playing characters in short children’s stories and will be led by Allison Gardner. This class begins on September 5th.

Tumbling & Parkour (PreK)

Chess

A fantastic group of teachers helps to make chess fun and interactive for each student, regardless of his or her level of experience. Playing chess has proven to help students enhance creativity, improve concentration, develop and expand critical thinking skills, and boost academic performance.

Parkour & Tumbling (K-4th)

Pottery Plus

Explore hand building, sculpture, slab, coiling, pinching, and scoring. Each artist will complete several glazed masterpieces, while enjoying creative experimentation and personal expression through guided projects, while enhancing sensory development and motor skills. In addition, this fall we'll also be working with other sculpture material as well to create even more fun masterpieces!

if you love ART & ANIMALS.... come hang out with TheArtBarn Crew on Thursdays! Each week we will meet a different barnyard buddy along with some of our crazy cool creature feature friends.  We will read a story about them. Have lots of hands on time with them and then create a super cool piece of art using them as our models.  We will work with drawing, painting, clay, and mixed media to whip up some master pieces.  We will meet Farmer Sue's barnyard family all of which are clean, friendly and kid safe!  Just to name a few: Pickles the pig, Vera Bradley the barred rock hen, Fire our Rooster, chicks n eggs for sure, Ducks, Toby the bunny, Shadow & Maggie our goats, Cecil, Sam & Buddy our sheep, Strawberry the miniature horse and some of our new crazy cool insect, turtles and reptile friends. (nothing creepy icky or dangerous - farmer sue is into cool not creepy)

PreK Yoga

Yoga not only improves focus, flexibility, balance, strength, stamina, and coordination, but also enhances self awareness, self discipline, and self-esteem.  The ultimate goal in yoga is to receive a deeper connection to yourself and with others. In yoga class we learn and practice yoga postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness.  The students learn specific tools for calming down or increasing energy, and to have the wisdom to know when each is appropriate. Each yoga lesson begins with a mindful intention that empowers students and fosters positive thinking.  We will then practice challenging yoga postures that strengthen and balance the body and mind. Throughout the lesson, students learn and practice breathing techniques to relax and manage their stress.  We will listen to music, play yoga games and sometimes create mindful art to encourage self expression and creativity. Most of all we will have FUN!!!

Minecraft Exploration Club

New challenges this Winter for returning students and newcomers! Minecraft is more than chasing Creepers around. Join Galloway's EL Librarian Steve Bartle to create, explore, and put your problem-solving skills to the test. The class is designed to help students learn and improve their building skills using the creative side of Minecraft. Students will collaborate together while solving project-based activities. We will focus on developing the camper's understanding of Redstone, game design, adventure maps and much more. Please note, new and returning students are welcome to join this session. We will be using a new version of Minecraft, which will lead to new and exciting activities.

Alliance Theater Drama Class
4th, 5th, & 6th grade, 3-4:15 p.m. -- $250, min 6, max 12

Join our teacher from the Alliance Theater as we explore all aspects of drama together in this comprehensive class. Students will learn basic and intermediate acting skills in this class as they work together in scenes, master their stage presence, and develop their imagination as it relates to their character. This class will include a short presentation for parents on May 23rd. 

Advanced Pottery & Painting class

We will spend part of the term doing advanced pottery projects and part of the term painting on canvas with acrylic. The children will finish several masterpieces including an impressionistic painting, as well as an abstract. Your child does not need to be able to draw well to find success in this class. The focus is to introduce each child to the joy of painting and mixing colors. Be prepared to be amazed by your children’s art!

Middle Learning Directed Study (MLDS) (Monday-Thursdays)
5th-8th, 3-4pm, min 4, max 6

Galloway Middle Learning Directed Study (MLDS) provides group tutoring and time management assistance for Galloway middle learning students. These sessions are designed to help students with current schoolwork and upcoming assignments. Students can expect to meet weekly with Lordserious Watson to address scholastic progress through expert tutelage and customized action plans. These action plans include study schedules, prioritizing assignments, tutoring, and more. Mr. Watson will also teach and emphasize proven study habits and problem-solving skills. He is a professional educator, Alumnus of Galloway and Georgia Tech, and has been working with Galloway students for 10 years. Slots are limited to a minimum of 4 students each and a maximum of 6 to insure that each child receives plenty of personal attention.

Afterschool Music Lessons at Galloway

The second session of music lessons begins in January of 2019. If you would like to check availability with specific teachers, or a specific teacher, please email Jim Hilleary @ jhilleary@gallowayschool.org

Register for the instructor and amount of time you would like. Once you register, the instructor will be in touch with you via email to confirm a time for your student in their schedule. Lessons will begin the week of January 7. If an agreeable time can not be found, 100% of the registration fee will be refunded to your credit card.
