When asked what they value most about being a student at The Galloway School our students frequently respond, “the freedom” — freedom to pursue their interests and passions; freedom to try something new; freedom to express their opinions and ideas and freedom to simply be themselves.
The arts play an important role in the freedom Galloway students cherish as they express themselves through music, dance, theatre, visual and media arts. Our talented arts faculty of teaching artists nurture individual creativity while teaching mastery of their craft. Our no-cut policy ensures any student who wants to participate in the performing arts can. Our independent study class and artist-in-residence program ensure our students can pursue their creative passion with support from a wide range of professional artists – from lighting designers to muralists to professional string quartets.
Galloway teachers recognize the multiplicity of ways students learn and express their understandings. The arts teachers work in collaboration with classroom teachers and artists-in-residence to foster connections across the disciplines. From preschool children painting murals of the life cycle of the butterfly to high school students creating movie trailers based on their study of the Cultural Revolution in China, Galloway students learn to draw upon their creativity in all areas of learning.
Many of our graduates go on to enjoy a career in the arts. We are proud of our alumni who are professional dancers, musicians, actors, film makers, and visual artists. We are equally proud of our alumni who take with them a passion for the freedom of expression they discover and develop while at Galloway.
What a beautiful opportunity the arts provide all of us to experience —
