Upper Learning Fine Arts

Music ensembles (Guitar, Band, and Chorus) continue into Upper Learning. Any student may enroll in the Mixed Level ensembles in Upper Learning. Young musicians who are interested in and ready to pursue music at a more rigorous level may audition for Advanced Combined Ensemble, a selective class that allows students to collaborate with fellow advanced musicians. All ensembles enjoy regular performance engagements on campus and beyond. Other UL music offerings might include Digital Music, AP Music Theory or Songwriting.

Galloway Theatre, like the other Fine Arts disciplines, offers new and exciting opportunities to Upper Learners. Curated in two sub-disciplines, theatre as an actor and theatre as a technician, our curriculum boasts countless opportunities for students to explore or pursue at the level which suits them. Both experienced actors and those new to the stage may take courses like Acting I, Improvisation, and more. Technicians may enroll in courses such as Cosplay: Makeup and Props Design, Scenic Painting, Stagecraft and more. In both disciplines, the pinnacles of the year are the Upper Learning Play and the Upper Learning Musical, both of which are courses that meet during the school day and also carry an after-school component for a limited number of weeks. For those interested in non-production based classes, they might take Film Studies, Public Speaking, or Writing. 

Galloway Dance curriculum expands in Upper Learning. Our thriving dance program offers options for Upper Learners to dive in at any point as new dancers, take a yoga class, or enroll in Dance Ensemble or Advanced Dance Ensemble. Students perform in class regularly. They also perform in dance concerts in both January and May, with the spring concert showcasing student choreography.

Galloway Visual Arts hits its stride in Upper Learning beginning with Foundations of Art. From there, artists may dabble in both 2D and 3D art or pursue one or the other exclusively. 2D Art opportunities include drawing, painting, color theory, and photography, while 3D courses include ceramics and sculpture. Advanced artists may choose to take AP Visual Art classes, working throughout the year on their portfolios. The Chaddick Center of the Arts proudly displays year-long galleries of student work, which is also showcased at the High Museum for an annual exhibit.
