New Parents

Welcome to Galloway!

We are so excited to welcome you to the Galloway community. You will receive access to the Parent Portal in mid-July. Until then, this page contains links to information that you may find helpful as a new family at The Galloway School. If you have questions, here are key contacts by level and across the school.

School-wide information:

  • Major Dates for the 2019-20 school year
  • First Day of School: Wednesday, August 14
Orientation for each level will be held on Tuesday, August 13. Early Learning orientation will also include classroom visits. Detailed schedules will be included in the Back-to-School Launch Packet that is made available for families in late July.
  • The Parent Portal
The Parent Portal is accessed from Your login will be the same login that you use for MyBackPack. However, your ability to log in will not be active until we complete our software rollover in mid-July. The Parent Portal is where you will go to access the Back-to-School Launch Packet and other important documents and forms.
  • Back-to-School Launch Packet
In years past, we mailed home a big packet of papers to parents and students detailing information for the start of the school year. We've now gone paperless, and all of the information will be posted on the online Galloway Parent Portal. Be on the look out in late July for an email from Galloway alerting you that the Back-to-School Launch Packet is available for public view. Class lists, supply lists, carpool information, handbooks and much more will be available there.
  • Online Family Directory
The online Family Directory is available in MyBackPack. Any Galloway parent has access to it and can use it to search current families by grade, zip code, name, and class. Here's a quick how-to on using the directory. New families' information will be added to the directory by mid-July.
  • Middle Learning
Families that are joining ML will all receive an email from Assistant Principal Candace Bell in the coming weeks explaining the process for registration. For fifth- and sixth-graders, schedules are assigned, though they will have an opportunity to choose to study French or Spanish. For seventh- and eighth-graders, core classes are assigned (Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Pre-Algebra (seventh grade) or Algebra (eighth grade)). Seventh- and eighth-grade students will choose from French, Latin, or Spanish for their World Language and also will be able to choose from a variety of elective options the first week of school to complete their seven-period schedule. Grade level daily schedules will be available on the Parent Portal in August.
  • Upper Learning
  • Summer Reading
Students entering grade four and above will be assigned a summer reading book. A copy of your child's summer reading book is in your New Parent Bag. If it's not there, please get in touch with your level administrative assistant (see above for contact information).
  • Summer Opportunities
    • Summer Camps
A variety of summer camp options are available at Galloway during the full 10 weeks of break. It's a great way for younger students to become familiar with the campus and some of the faculty and staff before the new year begins!
    • Refresher Classes:
Back-To-School refresher courses are available during the week of July 29 for grades 5-9 in math and language arts.
  • New Parent Ambassador Contacts and Summer Get-Togethers
    • Early Learning will have Lemonade Day on May 11. Be on the lookout for emails from your New Parent Ambassadors with information about additional playdates by grade level.
    • Middle Learning and Upper Learning New Parent Ambassadors will be in touch with new families over the summer to help ease transition jitters.
  • Parents Association/Great Scots provides general info on committees and volunteer opportunities for parents. Please also Save-the-Dates for next year's parents activities.
  • Athletics Registration
Fall Sports sign ups will be sent out in the next two weeks. Sign-up links will come straight from the Athletics office. Families wanting to sign their kids up for a fall sport will have about a two week window to get their child registered.  All UL fall sports begin on Thursday, Aug. 1. All ML Fall Sports begin the week of Aug. 12. Some coaches/programs will decide to begin on Aug. 12, others may begin on the first day of school, Aug. 14. Fall sports include UL and ML boys and girls cross country, UL and ML girls softball, UL and ML girls volleyball, and ML boys soccer. Coach Brown, the ML athletics director, will be sending out more information regarding ML fall sports and the integration of sixth grade into Galloway Athletics. Information about registration for Jr. Scots (K-6) will be included in the Back-to-School Launch Packet. For more information on the athletics program in general, visit
