Early Learning Guidance Counseling

At The Galloway School, the social-emotional health of our student body is a top priority. Each level (Early Learning, Middle Learning and Upper Learning) has a full-time counselor dedicated to addressing the needs of its students, parents, and faculty. In addition, counselors work to build school-wide awareness regarding social justice, service learning, and creating a culture of safety and tolerance.

For Our Students

Counselors foster the social and emotional well-being of our students in order to facilitate academic success and personal growth. Programs, SEL (Social Emotional Learning) classes and interventions are designed to promote the development of self awareness, interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, and healthy boundaries. These skill sets assist students in creating more effective work habits and a positive approach to learning, along with developing more satisfying relationships and healthy lifestyles. If needed, counselors link parents and students to outside resources such as individual therapy, social skills training, and support groups.

For Our Parents

In addition to meeting with parents about their individual children or families, counselors develop parent education programming about topics that are developmentally appropriate to the age of the students or to the student body at large. Parent education works to build a set of common values and foster a sense of community among Galloway parents.

For Our Faculty & Staff

Counselors are integral members of the leadership team at each level and provide ongoing consultation and support to faculty regarding student needs. Counselors offer support, consultation, and leadership as our school community implements best practices of SEL, integrating these practices more deliberately into our curricula and our school culture. In addition, counselors provide information about mental health and social development that enrich the faculty's ability to best support their students.
