Varsity Tennis Celebrates a Fantastic Season

By Head of Community Engagement Gordon Mathis

Congratulations to varsity tennis on an outstanding season that concluded with both teams advancing to the state tournament!

The girls team advanced to the state level of play for the first time in five years. At the state tournament, the girls team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of play. Congratulations to Lily Schweber ‘23, Rachel Graves ‘23, Lucy Pittman ‘23, Eden Foster ‘24, Lindsay Graves ‘24, Sophia Hernandez ‘24, Shira Lipton ‘24, Cate Wasserman ‘24, Anastasiya Speyer ‘25, Jyoti Owen ‘25, and Samantha Wiener ‘25!

The boys’ team advanced to the Final Four, an achievement matched only three times in Galloway’s history. Kudos go to seniors Joe Greenberg ‘23, Dean Seltzer ‘23, Carter Davidson ‘24, Cole Goodman-Gary ‘24, Davik Yadav ‘24, Rishav Ranganathan ‘25, Connor Biglari ‘26, Richard Lurey ‘26, and Patrick Lafaire ‘26.

Tennis has a great history at Galloway; in previous years, the Galloway tennis teams have advanced to the state tournament eight times. Upper Learning teacher Sam Biglari has coached the team for 15 years. He says, “It was exciting to coach these student-athletes during this historic season.”

Galloway plays in a very competitive region of ten teams. Only one other school from the region sent both teams to the state tournament; all four teams in the Galloway region made it to the Final Four in the boys competition.

Way to go, Scots!
