Students Collaborate with Artist-in-Residence William Downs

Over the past week, Galloway artists in all levels have been working with local artist William Downs. Throughout his six day residency, William led students from 4th through 12th grade through an intuitive drawing process to create work that will be included in his upcoming exhibition in our Chaddick Gallery that will be displayed through the end of the school year.

“My work processes trauma, spirituality, loss, and history through a variety of intimate means. It seeks to address human experience that begins at a personal level- be that through the aftermath of a Hurricane, or that of a loss of a very close family member- and to extend it towards a universal sensibility,” said William whose primary medium is drawing in black & white. “Each work is an attempt to archive a particular emotion based on an autobiographical experience, in order to crystallize an archetype that extends and is applicable beyond my own dream.”

On Wednesday, April 12, Galloway Fine Arts, in partnership with FoCUS, will host an artist’s talk at 5:30 PM and an opening reception at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, April 12, in the Chaddick Center for Fine Arts before the ML/UL Choral Concert begins at 7 PM.
