4th Grade Visits Jekyll Island

4th Grade Visits Jekyll Island

Every year, the entire fourth grade visits Jekyll Island, located in Glynn County, Georgia and is one of the Golden Isles of the Georgia barrier islands.

Students immersed themselves in hands-on exploration of Georgia’s unique coastal ecosystems. Over the course of the trip, students participated in marine ecology studies, gaining firsthand knowledge about the ocean and its vital role in environmental sustainability. Guided by local experts, they explored oceanic conservation efforts, investigated the life cycles of native species, and examined the health of various marine habitats.

The students’ curiosity was sparked through interactive field experiences, including seining in the Atlantic, going fishing, and observing coastal wildlife up close. They hiked through the lush maritime forest, learning about the island’s rich biodiversity and geological history. From collecting marine specimens to discussing human impact on ocean life, the trip provided students with meaningful opportunities to connect science with the natural world and left them with a deeper appreciation for Georgia’s coastal treasures!
