Wood-working? Metal-craft? Welding? CNC Router? All exist as part of the newly expanded scene shop in the basement of the Chaddick Center.
As part of the STEAM initiative funded by the Goizueta Foundation, the scene shop will be available for all teachers and for all students under proper supervision. Ms. G, EL art teacher, is the first “early adapter” of these opportunities; she will earn a certificate to operate the power tools and the metal fabrication machines, especially in support of individual students’ passion projects. In ML, students in Stagecraft are building props for the ML musical, Seussical. UL students in classes with technical theatre teacher Liz Whalen will use the facilities to support theatre productions. Ms. Whalen also supports UL students in independent study projects. Similarly, design students who work with MariaPaola Jimenez will benefit from the expanded capabilities of the new facilities, and 2D and 3D art students who work with art teacher Mary Stuart Hall will use the 3D capability of the CNC router.
STEAM — in this case, the Engineering and Arts part of the acronym, is alive and well in the Chaddick Center!
