Galloway Yearbook Staff Recognized by Jostens

By Head of Community Engagement Gordon Mathis

Galloway’s yearbook staff has been recognized as a National Yearbook Program of Excellence at the Gold Level from Jostens, the publisher for the school annuals. The theme of the award-winning 2021-22 yearbook was “Here”, reflecting the school community’s return to the campus as the pandemic waned.

Upper Learning English teacher and yearbook sponsor Katie Crowell noted, “The recognition is for creating an inclusive yearbook – we worked hard to fully incorporate all students in Early, Middle, and Upper Learning levels.” She praised the hard work of the five Libertas staff members who dedicated their Excursion in the winter of 2022 to completing the yearbook. Congratulations to Jonah Wassersug ‘22, Hallie Kaplan ‘22, Alexa Friedman ‘22, Kate Parrish ‘23, and Avner Belsky ‘25! Kate will join returning staff members Riley Macdonald ‘23, Kayla Kessler ‘23, and Ellis Balser ‘23 to work on this school year’s edition of Libertas.

Crowell, in her fifth year as sponsor, is proud of the development of the yearbook. She initiated an index – readers of the yearbook can easily locate the pages of each child’s photographs. The yearbook boasts more color photographs and captions under each image. Under her tutelage, the staff members sustain a union of design, color, and font throughout the publication.

Jostens notes that students involved in publishing yearbooks develop 21st-century skills, such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies literacy. Look out for the next version of the Libertas in the spring!
