Do you enjoy watching police procedurals on TV? Can you recall the constitutional rights that all Americans have due to the Bill of Rights? Upper Learning students in Political Science and AP US Government were treated to a real-life application of information about the criminal justice system by Galloway graduate Asia Baysah ‘03, who works in the Fulton County District Attorney’s office.
Asia held students spellbound as she described recent cases that she had prosecuted and presented evidence to the students that she had used in court, asking the students to assess its viability. She wove references to constitutional rights – in a criminal court, every accused person is guaranteed an attorney; the concept of a reasonable search as applied to a warrant, the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt in determining guilt or innocence. Asia utilized the presentational skills that she employs in front of a jury to teach UL students.
We look forward to welcoming Asia back to Galloway with more cases to share!
