Galloway Awarded Goizueta Grant

By Assistant Head of School for Academics David Long and Associate Director of Development Liz Cohen

From its founding in 1969, Galloway has always strived to be an innovative, creative, and forward-thinking school that keeps each student at the center of our work. For the past five years, we have made a concerted effort to use these qualities to build and develop our robust STEAM program that exists across all three levels. Along the way, we have been supported by an amazing faculty who are willing to try new things and integrate student learning through a STEAM lens.

With the implementation of our strategic plan, we recognized the need to continue to grow our STEAM program across all levels, as the initiatives challenge us to continue to be innovative and forward-thinking with teaching and learning. In line with the strategic plan theme of “developing the whole person,” social and emotional learning (SEL) continues to be a lens through which we teach and learn holistically at Galloway.

We are excited to announce that we were awarded another three-year grant from the Goizueta Foundation, a private, grantmaking organization that supports STEAM initiatives in Atlanta-area schools as one of its primary focus areas. These funds will be used to support the following:

  • The hiring of new faculty to support curriculum integration and innovation.
  • SEL training for all faculty and staff to better meet the needs of our students.
  • A STEAM Innovation Grant to support faculty as they bring STEAM lessons into their classrooms.
  • Materials, training, and professional development to support our faculty and teaching and learning.
  • Small construction projects to create more space for teaching and learning.
  • A STEAM endowment to support STEAM initiatives long-term at Galloway.

Not only will these funds help us to build upon the strong foundation that has been laid in our STEAM program, but they will also allow us to continue to focus on the mission-driven task of developing the whole child.
