This past week, the team of Nora Perez-Rubio '25 and Emerson Waller '25 competed at the Junior Round Robin hosted virtually by the University of Michigan. A round-robin is an exhibition debate in which national-level teams are invited to showcase their talent. The competition featured top juniors from schools across the country - and beyond! - including Woodward Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy, and the Asian Debate League.
In preliminary debates, Nora and Emerson placed 4th, scoring wins against Benedectine, Head Royce, and Minneapolis South. In addition, Emerson received an individual speaker award, meaning judges ranked her as one of the best debaters at the competition.
"I am incredibly proud of Nora and Emerson, said Debate Coach Clay Stewart. "Qualifying for the Round Robin was impressive, but placing at the tournament far exceeded expectations. This shows that the sky truly is the limit for Galloway Debate!"
