Galloway Speaker Series
Elliott Galloway was a visionary, an innovator and a true humanitarian. But perhaps above all, Elliott Galloway was an inspiration. In celebration of the school’s 40th anniversary in 2010, Galloway initiated a Speaker Series to promote and leverage Elliott Galloway’s vision. The Speaker Series has featured guests including Hank Aaron, Ted Turner, President Jimmy Carter, Congressman John Lewis, Heifer International CEO Pierre Ferrari and Ambassador Andrew Young.
The goals for the speaker series are to promote and demonstrate the vitality of Galloway to the community at large and to re-engage alumni, alumni parents and former Trustees of the school as well as to leverage the school’s origins in a way that securely defines the school’s “future thinking” and brand positioning.
The Galloway School strives to realize everyone’s potential by fostering a sense of self, showing an appreciation for others, engaging in creative problem solving, and taking on life’s varied challenges with enthusiasm and determination.
This year’s speaker was Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot. On Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. he spoke to the Galloway community about founding Home Depot and his philanthropic initiatives with the Marcus Institute and the Georgia Aquarium.
The philosophy of our founder, Elliott Galloway, always included the pursuit of good health and fitness. “The physically fit body leads to a sound mind and peaceful soul,” he wrote. Since 1971, Elliott’s 5K and 1-mile Fun Run have helped celebrate this vision while providing essential funding for the Elliott Galloway Scholarship Fund. All runners (and walkers!) from our community are invited to participate in these races; participation rather than competition is emphasized. The event is held annually at the Galloway Athletics Complex on DeFoors Ferry Road.
Galloway's biennial Gala is a fun-filled evening out for parents, teachers, and community members complete with dinner, dancing, and silent and live auctions. Always executed with style and great attention to detail, Elliott's Evening is one of the highlights of the year for the Galloway community. Proceeds from the evening support the Elliott Galloway Scholarship Fund.
Elliott's Evening was held on April 22, 2017. Learn more here »
