College Counseling

Philosophy

The college counseling program is based on the philosophy that choosing a college is a cooperative effort among student, family, college counselor and the Galloway community. The college counseling program strives to match students with the college or university that is most suited to their interests and goals. Starting in January of their junior year, students and parents begin individual one-on-one meetings to identify these interests. Each plan is unique to the individual student.

Process

Our students are diverse in their interests and talents, and our college matriculation list reflects that diversity. The goal is to ensure that each student completes a thorough college search and finds the right college match. Throughout the school year, the college counseling office offers various programs to help prepare students and their parents for the college selection and admission process. College counseling continues to hone its knowledge of college admission by active participation in regional and national associations as well as regular visits to colleges and universities around the country. A graduating class of approximately 60 students receives visits from more than 80 colleges and universities during the college recruitment season.

College counseling works hard to help students and families make informed decisions about colleges and prepare their applications. To this end, technology has provided access to a myriad of communication tools and information sources. The college counseling office organizes statistical application histories through Family Connection by Naviance. Furthermore, students and parents are included on e-mail lists managed by the office and have password-protected access to a Family Connection account through which they can organize their college search.
